Ghayath Almadhoun

“You say I escaped the war. No, my dear, no one escapes war. It’s only that I didn’t die. I remained alive, that’s all.” 

Ghayath Almadhoun (1979) is a Syrian-Palestinian-Swedish poet. Born in the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk in Damascus to a Palestinian father and a Syrian mother, he now lives in Berlin. His previous works available in Dutch translation by Djûke Poppinga include Weg van Damascus (Away from Damascus) and ik hier jij daar (Me Here, You There, with Anne Vegter).
