Op zijn nieuwe album All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu houdt Rufus Wainwright het ingetogen. En dat is bijzonder voor iemand die extravagante, barokke pop als zijn handelsmerk heeft. Maar de afgelopen jaren waren hectisch - niet alleen was daar het grote succes van zijn album Release the Stars en zijn debuutopera Prima Donna, maar ook was er het ziekbed en de dood van zijn moeder, de folkzangeres Kate McGarrigle. De piano werd de enige plek waar hij alleen kon zijn en dingen kon verwerken. Het resultaat is dit nieuwe album, waarop Wrainwright met vaak niet meer dan pianobegeleiding zingt over liefde en de angst om te verliezen. Tijdens Crossing Border zal hij het album integraal uitvoeren, met na de pauze een best of uit zijn oudere werk.

• Lulu from the album title refers to actress Louise Brooks, a femme fatale from the era of silent film. All Days Are Nights' is a citation from a sonnet by Shakespeare. On All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu there are in total three musical works based on sonnets by Shakespeare.
